Many couples have a desire to have children, but in some instances, they just don’t want to get pregnant. This may be because one of you may not be fertile. In about one third of all couples there are fertility problems and this mainly occurs in the man. Thus, the man often has reduced sperm quality, and you can even have this tested at home. With a home sperm count test, you can find this out. This is of course examined by experts and so you know exactly whether you are fertile, or not. How does this work exactly? In this article, we will discuss this in detail, so you can find out more.
What is a sperm test?
A spermcheck is a fertility test for men, which allows you to examine the quality of your sperm. In the laboratory, the number of sperm cells present in your sperm is assessed. This involves looking at how the sperm cells move and/or the sperm cells look intact. For the test, you need to collect sperm in a jar, which of course you must send to a laboratory for further examination. The results of the test will show whether there are enough active sperm cells present. Is there a reduced sperm quality? Then there is reduced fertility, and you can sometimes do something about it.
Be aware that a sperm check at home is not more reliable than the hospital tests. In the hospital they test with a microscope, and with a home test this is of course not done. Most home tests also give a positive or a negative result, but fertility cannot be expressed in black and white. So you can have reduced fertility, but still become pregnant with a child.
When do you take the test?
If you’ve been trying to get pregnant for a long time, but haven’t succeeded within a few months, it’s a good idea to take a fertility test. There are tests for both women and men. However, it is important that you both take the test so that you get a good indication of where the problems lie. It may also be due to ovulation of the woman, and you can take further steps. You can of course have these tests done by your family doctor, but you can also do this at home. With a sperm test at home, only the number of active sperm cells is measured, but there may also be other causes of the problem.
